Vocabulary. Grammar. Pronunciation. Listening. Speaking. Reading. Writing. These categories are useful for organizing textbooks, courses and exams. But they can also create a misleading picture of what learning a language actually means. A person does not communicate by opening a mental vocabulary section, selecting a grammar rule, checking pronunciation, and then assembling a sentence. Real communication happens differently. We recognize a situation. We understand relationships. We interpret intention. We decide what matters. We choose how to express it. And we do all of this under the pressure of time, context and another human being waiting for a response.
